WE DO. Everything we get wrong about drugs, addiction and the overdose crisis can be attributed to a single source: The News Media. Journalists are ethically bound to apply certain standards to their reporting—things like corroborating sources, conducting actual field reporting, and sifting through primary research on subjects they know nothing about. Yet when it comes to the War on Drugs, with notable exceptions, journalism has dropped the ball, serving as a mouthpiece for the status quo with tired tropes and sensational headlines that have little to no grounding in fact. We’re here to call them out one story at a time.
Narcomedia is a reporting and educational collaborative founded by journalist & urban ethnographer Christopher Moraff to advance a critical dialogue on US drug policy; counter misinformation on drugs & substance use depicted in mass media; and expose the collateral damage of US drug policy on America's communities.
